Bushfire Resistant Construction regulations update

In September 2011 new bushfire regulations came into effect for Victoria. There are designated bushfire risk areas across the state. The minimum requirement is to build to BAL12.5 in these areas unless a higher BAL applies.

The Australian Standard AS3959-2009 Construction of Buildings in Bushfire Prone Areas specifies the minimum construction standards for houses in risk areas.

In Planning Schemes, Wildfire Management Overlays are being replaced by Bushfire Management Overlays to streamline the process. CFA input is co-ordinated within the Planning Permit process.
